The information processing model is founded on the idea that human cognition functions similarly to a computer, processing information in a sequential manner. The main components of this model consist of input, processing, storage, and output.

Input refers to the information received from the environment through our senses. Processing involves the mental operations that transform the input into a format suitable for storage and understanding. Storage is where the information is held for later retrieval, and it includes processes that involve encoding the information into memory. Finally, output pertains to the way information is expressed or used after processing, like through speaking, writing, or action.

This model emphasizes the flow of information from reception to response, detailing how we interact with and utilize information in our cognitive functions. Understanding these core components provides insight into how we learn, remember, and make decisions based on the information processed.
